I do think that parents should moniter what their children are reading, listening to, and watching to an extent. If the parent has read the book and knows that its inappropriate for their child they have the right to tell them not to read it. If the parents haven't experienced the book they should not be able to judge it.

I think artistic value and obsenity have a different meaning to everyone. There is not real definition for these words for a reason. Everyone has a different opinion on everything. People think differently about everything so no one has the right to tell you something is obscene.
